Keeping up with BLOG-cember, and starting a new series, I introduce Trash It Tuesdays. I have a pretty decent sized makeup/beauty product collection and of course that means I also have some products that I am not so fond of, so I plan on sharing some of my not so pleasant experiences to possibly save you the trouble. While the series implies I am trashing all the products included, that is not quite the case, I do have various female family members and a couple friends that I like to let dip into my rejects, since sometimes products are not bad, they just don't suit me. So fear not the majority of products featured will find a new home rather than being tossed. Now on to the trash talk.
First item up is the Rimmel London Show Off Lip Lacquer, this particular shade is 101 Celestial. I wanted to love these lip products so much it hurts, but unfortunately this formula is just terrible in my opinion. The particular shade is quite nice and the opacity is great but these just feel like glue on the lips. I am not the biggest fan on glossy lipsticks. When I go for a gloss it is typically on the sheer side and used in place of lipstick. I am very specific with my lip products, so this may just be me. However I would much prefer this product if it were a matte finish rather than a glossy one. The glue feeling I get from these comes from the glossy finish that never seems to really set on the lips. I could not really give an accurate wear time on this product since I never kept it on for more than about 10 minutes. The smell might also be a deal breaker for some as it does have a very strong artificially sweet scent, it does not bother me personally but I know some are more sensitive to smell.
I will preface this by saying that I really do love some Wet n' Wild products, they make some kickass eyeshadows and their lipsticks are amazing considering the price. However they continually piss me off with their glitter products. I should have known before even buying this product that it would be shit, but the Walgreen's sale killed me so I broke down and spent fifty cents on this, BIG SPENDER huh? Well it proved to be worth less than what it cost. These glitters always pull at me because they look so pretty in the pan, but the dried hair gel they are suspended in is what really makes them such crap. I ruined more makeup looks than I care to admit trying to make this shit work. It is basically just lipbalm with some glitter thrown in and then they press a shit ton of glitter on the top to make it look better. The first swatch is packed with beautiful glitter and works decently, but after you break through that top lay of glittery goodness you are left with some slippery clear shit that will just smear any shadows you put under it. Let's not even talk about how much it makes everything crease in jsut 5 minutes. Basically this is kiddie play makeup, do not waste your quarters.
NYX I have such a love hate with you. Some of your shadows are beautiful and buttery and then there are shades like 02 White. I will probably be on the search for a decent matte white for the rest of my life, I have just begun to face this realization in the recent months. So if anyone has found a holy grail white shadow please share your secrets. This one is complete crap. The swatch I am including at the end of this post is after about 15 swipes of color, I think baby powder is more opaque than this shadow is. Why is it so difficult to formulate a decent matte white?!!?
