June 2014 Ipsy Bag Subscription

So it has been awhile since I have done one of these posts, in part due to my busy schedule with school and just life like I talked about in one of my past posts and in part due to the fact that I have really just been unimpressed with Ipsy lately. I have been a subscriber since their start so I feel a bit nostalgic and every time I consider canceling I give it one more month and they wow me... so hopefully next month is another awesome one or I might be finding a different company. I have a couple complaints this month, which is another reason I decided to go ahead and review this months products.

This month we got a super cute Rebecca Minkoff bag so kudos on the print, but I prefer the bags that zip on top and open a little wider (does this even make sense? I am no good at describing bags) but that is not a problem since the bag is cute. No real complaints here about that aspect.

Now on to whats inside...
          1. NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee
          2. Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray
          3. Nicka K New York Shimmer Eyeliner
          4. Be A Bombshell Lash Out Mascara
          5. Essence of Beauty Fine Fragrance Body Mist in Wind Kissed

1. NYX Butter Glosses are amazing, they are really the only gloss formula I have ever fallen in love with, most of the colors have very good opacity, they are not sticky at all, they smell amazing, and they are super affordable. Unfortunately I already owned this color but that is not a problem I was still happy to see this product in my bag. It would have been cool for them to send one of the newer shades since I only have a couple of those but again not a big deal.
(Not pictured because I lost it when taking pictures and then found again later)
2. Beach sprays and salt sprays are not really my cup of tea since none of them have ever worked for me in the past. The texture of my hair is this weird wavy, straight, frizzy mess so I really do not need any help creating texture, however because this product smells great I wanted to love it. (I am a sucker for good smelling hair products) I tried it once on my damp hair before braiding it with the intention of making manageable wavy hair without heat. Once my hair dried I did have pretty wavy hair but I could not say if this product helped or not but I will play with it some more. Overall this one is kinda just alright. I would rather makeup products over hair products.

3. This eyeliner is a super pretty green-blue color and just like it says it is very sparkly. I have similar products and this is right on par with the others as far as the formula goes, but I am not keen on the applicator, I prefer a marker or a fine brush with bristles, this is one of those weird hybrid brushes. Nothing that will keep me from using it, so overall happy with this product.

4. Now here is where shit hits the fan....but let me preface this with the fact that I really do like the Be a Bombshell brand. I was probably most excited about this mascara, I am a Texas girl and the only thing we like bigger than our hair is our lashes so I am forever on the lookout for the best mascara. I opened my tube and immediately smelled what I can only describe as garlic and burnt rubber... Now I like garlic but I do not think my mascara should smell so strongly of it. I didn't even have to sniff the actual wand to smell it, just opening the tube was enough. Of course I go online to see if anyone else had the same problem or if maybe I just got the funky tube. I was not the only person... now if you have been with Ipsy for any amount of time now you probably remember the foul smelling Pop lip glosses, I was the lucky receiver of one of those also. I understand that shit happens and sometimes there are a couple bad apples in the bunch but for the second time every subscriber has received a "bad product" I use that term lightly because according to Be a Bombshell there is nothing wrong with the mascaras aside from the smell, BUT multiple Ipsy subscribers complained that the mascara made their eyes red and itchy. I know some people exaggerate and considering the reactions to the Pop glosses I am sure some are just being overdramatic, then there are some who just have sensitive skin/eyes anyways so I am not sure what the true story is, however I do know that I will not be using this mascara in order to avoid any problems. I have emailed Ipsy regarding the matter because I just don't think it is fair to pay for a service and be presented with faulty products. Just as with the Pop situation both the brand and Ipsy claim there is nothing wrong other than mishaps with fragrance additives and they are very sorry, that is really not a good enough answer to me, I am sure that they knew about the funny smells yet they still sent them out because they did not want to do the right thing and throw the product out and find a replacement. That is just bad business and is starting to piss me off.

5. I am not the biggest fan of the EoB fragrances, they all just smell cheap to me. This one is no different so I will just be finding it a new home.

Overall this bag was kinda a bust this month, I only liked two of the five products and of those two I already owned one and had products similar to the other. The bag was cute but I am just not impressed, and the whole mascara ordeal just pissed me off. So I am giving Ipsy one more month before deciding to cancel. Do you subscribe to Ipsy? If so what are your feelings about the service and products? Do you subscribe to any other sample services? Suggestions would be great in case I end up canceling.

If you happen to want to try Ipsy check out this link for more info Ipsy Website and if you sign up using that link you can help me get points to use towards extras that I can review on here! :D
